A Message From The Farmer
Greetings from the farm, it has been a busy season! Over the winter, we moved about 5 acres of steel pig panels into the woods. It was a huge project, but we think it was worth it for all the increased vegetation and bugs the pigs ate this summer. They helped us landscape the area, we are shifting it to
an oak/savanna model. They start with the grasses and bushes they can reach, break up old logs for bugs, and plow up bramble roots with the “plow” at the end of their nose. Have you ever watched a pig root? They are like four legged tractors! We leave the Oaks, Hickories, Chestnuts, Mulberries, Apples,
Paw Paws, Maples, and anything that drops something that can be eaten. This opens the canopy up for sunlight to reach the ground so we can grow more green plants for the pigs to self-harvest and eat. The idea is to move them to new areas with electric fencing and let most of the land be at rest most of the time. We will plant cover crops as they leave an area. We are very proud of this year’s pigs; they will be the best we have ever done.
We also have a fine batch of Grass-fed beef that we are just finishing up. Black and red Angus mostly, with a few Hereford (white face). Our pastures get better every year and we are very happy with this year’s harvest. Look below for the various ways you can get some of these products.
In addition to the farm we were already running, we set up a second farm this year East of South Haven. We are very excited about this new opportunity, as it doubles our capacity, allowing us to keep more of your favorite products in stock. We ran an additional batch of pigs through the pig glen here and we are just about to harvest our first batch of cattle from this new pasture. We are taking orders now to purchase a half or whole pig or cow or purchase just what you want off our menu.

Why Our Animal's Diets Matter
“IN CONCLUSION, WE FOUND THAT PASTURE FED CATTLE AND PIGS HAD SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER LEVELS OF LONG CHAIN N-3 AND TOTAL N-3 FATTY ACIDS.”
-Study From Department Of Food Science In Australia
What our animal's eat affects the flavor of the meat, the physical and mental health of the animal, and has a direct impact on what nutrients are in the meats. Meat has so much more do to with nutrients than just the overall fat and protein content. With that being said there are countless studies showing that there are many health benefits. The biggest one is the amount of Omega-3 Fatty Acids.
